Our Story

What began as two couples meeting for communion in mid-2018, soon turned into a group of people too large for a residential living room. It became clear that God was birthing something new.

We met for our first Sunday service in August 2018 at the Jubilee Hall, Parnell. In December 2024 we completed work on our new auditorium and cafe in Greenlane, designed to reach out to our community. Destination Cafe began operating in late 2025.

Our DNA is explicitly missional; we exist to help unchurched people become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Every month at our 7pm service (in partnership with Thinking Matters) we invite key guest speakers to present on their areas of expertise in apologetics (how reason and science fit together with faith). In October 2025 we hosted the inaugural Evangelism Conference, Good News for Aotearoa. We also run a number of courses including Alpha (Christianity 101) and CAP Money (budgeting).

We produce ‘Word for You TV (now with over 500 episodes) and are involved in international church planting and pastor training ministries in Papua New Guinea, Asia, and East Africa.

We love seeing people make first-time decisions for Jesus and be baptised, as well as seeing recommitments to God and to church community. If you aren't part of a church community, we believe that you will find The Journey to be welcoming and refreshing. Come and see!

Our vision

We see a congregation full of flourishing members who live abundant and fruitful lives in this world, equipped for effective ministry (Ephesians 4).

Our Statement of Faith

We believe in One God, in Jesus Christ, in the Bible, in our necessity to be Born Again, in Sanctification (mature growth) through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, in weekly Communion, in Giving, in Church Oversight by Apostles, Prophets, Pastors and more, and in the Commission to share the Good News.

Our Mission

We are all on a journey

An encounter with God changes us. Like the Apostle Paul on the Damascus road, we ought to respond to God’s love by asking, “What shall I do, Lord? (Acts 22:10).”

The Purpose of the Church

We are called represent Jesus, “to seek and save that which is lost (Luke 19:10).” We achieve God's purposes by “Equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Eph 4:11-12).”

Life is all about Relationship

Life is about loving God (through trust and obedience), loving other Christians (community) and loving those who don't yet know God.

The Church is held together by Love

C. S. Lewis defined love as ‘desiring the highest good of others.’ We receive love from God to give it away to others. We are blessed to be a blessing (Gen 12:2).

We receive the love we need through daily Communion with God

Relationship with God requires daily commitment to reading the bible and prayer. We were made for this and cannot function fully without it.

A vibrant youth ministry is vital to the longevity of the Church

It is our desire to see the next generation equipped and strengthened, so that they would be able to stand in faith (Ephesians 6).

Our Mission

We are all on a journey

An encounter with God changes us. Like the Apostle Paul on the Damascus road, we ought to respond to God’s love by asking, “What shall I do, Lord? (Acts 22:10).”

Life is all about three Communions

Life is about Communion with God, Communion with Each Other and Communion with The Lost. It is about developing a personal and satisfying relationship with God, loving other people as God loves us and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with those who do not yet know Him, so that they will be blessed.

We develop the love relationship that we need through our daily Communion with God

We grow into the people we were made to be by spending time with God. Jesus said that we are to enjoy His love, just as He has done with the Father (John 15:9). It is God who shows us what love is (John 3:16), and He sustains us so that we can achieve that which He has called us to do (Ephesians 2:10) and so find fulfilment in our lives here on Earth.

The Purpose of the Church

The Church is called to be Jesus’ representatives here on Earth. What is our calling? “To seek and to save that which is (the lost) (Luke 19:10).” How do we achieve the Purpose of the Church? By “Equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12).”

The Church is held together by Love

Life is about loving God and loving others (Matthew 22:40). What is love? C. S. Lewis, the famous author defined love as ‘desiring the highest good of others.’ This means that love is a verb, an action more than a feeling. It means that we receive the love we need from God so that we can give it away to others. Like Abraham, we are blessed to be a blessing to the world around us (Genesis 12:2).

A vibrant youth ministry is vital to the longevity of the Church

Those who are Spiritually mature are called to pass on their wisdom and knowledge to the next generation. At the heart of our vision is the desire to see the next generation equipped and strengthened, so that they would be able to stand in faith (Ephesians 6) and to be a blessing to the world around them. It is absolutely essential that the Church focuses on discipling youth and young adults.
