Dead or Asleep?

In the eleventh chapter of The Gospel of John, Jesus allowed to happen the suffering of the people whom he loved—the sisters of Lazarus who just died—and he wept with compassion, even though he knew he was going to eventually raise him from the dead. The account of raising Lazarus from the dead shows Jesus' heart for his people, while also his focus on the mission he was given from the Father.
